EnviGuard – Development of a biosensor technology for environmental monitoring and disease prevention in aquaculture ensuring food safety

BiOD is participating in the design and integration of the different modules within the Chemical Detection Unit (CDU) up to the feasibility study for the final user. It includes the installation of the first CDU prototype and fabrication of the chip exchanging mechanism.

The objective of EnviGuard is to develop a highly specific and precise in-situ measurement device for man-made chemical contaminants and biohazards (i.e. microorganisms and toxins from biological sources) which are currently hard to measure.

The developed device will be used as an early warning system for the European aquaculture sector and as an environmental monitoring tool to assess the Good Environmental Status (GES) of the sea.

ATAPoC – Desarrollo y validación clínica de un dispositivo para el diagnóstico y seguimiento de las alergias y tolerancias alimentarias (ATAPoC – Development and clinical validation of a diagnostic and tracking device for allergies and food intolerance)

The role of BiOD in this project is the optimization of the readout platform for its application in the field of allergy detection, equipping it with the necessary multiplexing capability through an automation system. (This effort has ultimately lead to a more advanced device which is the base for the AllerScreening platform – see “AllerScreenig” under current projects)

The final objective of the ATAPoC project is to offer a disruptive technology for testing food allergies and immunological intolerances detection to make these tests more accessible for the end-user and the society at large. In order to achieve reliable testing for food allergies and sensitivities, there is a common consensus in the scientific constituency about the importance of monitoring both IgEs (Immunoglobulins E) and IgGs (Immunoglobulins G). lthough some of these tests are currently available in the market, the ATAPoC project proposes launching a more reliable technology based on disposable iochip- KITs capable of measuring IgGs and IgEs on a single chip with ignificant better capabilities and much lower price.
